Starting a New Chapter

Sean and I have now been moved for just about three weeks, and we are loving having our own space! Don't get me wrong, living rent free in Grandma's basement was wonderful as we adjusted to being married, but we are both enjoying the satisfaction that comes from having to work for everything we have. I'll admit, it's not so easy for me to pass up that fast food restaurant when I'm starving at 10:00 after having worked all morning (I'm much to lazy to get up early enough to eat breakfast), and it's not always easy to only buy what's on the grocery list when I go grocery shopping, but I'm excited to be learning how to budget WITH my husband. Up until recently, we really haven't had to worry about paying many bills, and we have been able to spend freely. I say freely with some hesitation as we could not afford to go on vacations, we couldn't afford fancy clothes or shoes or electronics or anything like that, but we never ever had to make the tough decisions like "Do I buy that candy bar or pay my electric bill today?" In all honesty, having to make those decisions kind of terrifies me (even though it sounds ridiculous. Of course you pay your electric bill!). Maybe I'm nervous because I just haven't seen it work out yet. We haven't lived an entire month with all of our new expenses yet, and while we have a budget, we haven't been able to see how accurate that will be.



Anyways, enough about those crazy things. As I said before, we are both loving our new place. While it's only a one bedroom apartment, we feel like we have much more space. Our bathroom is huge (I'm pretty sure we could fit a bed in there if we wanted to) our bed is bigger (we upsized from a full to a queen...mattresses are expensive, by the way) Our room is bigger, I have more counter space in a smaller kitchen, and, my favorite, we have a dishwasher!!! I can not begin to describe how much more enjoyable cooking a meal is when you have a dishwasher! I used to dread making dinner because clean up took so much longer. Now I can cook dinner and throw all of the spoons and forks I use in the dishwasher and turn it on, and be done! So exciting!
